My Favorite Books for the Nursery !

June 16, 2011 By: Flavia

The boat bookcase in my baby’s nursery is the room’s ‘Piece of Resistance’ and I am thankful my husband has the talent {and the tools} to handcraft such beautiful things! But, what’s the use of a having a bookcase cluttered with stuffed animals? {no, no more stuffed animals please!}. Books are better!. I bought books for my baby when I was pregnant {gotta start’em early}.
So, friends and family always ask: What’s in the bookcase? Do you read to baby? Oh, yes! and he seems to enjoy each and every book since he was very little.
Here are my favorite picks and why I like them so much:

Desiderata for Cat Lovers: A Guide to Life & Happiness
Desiderata for Cat Lovers: A guide to Life & Happiness: this one is my number one favorite. Maybe it’s not a book for babies, but to me it’s absolutely worth having it in the nursery. I would call this book “the best of both worlds”. I am a cat lover and I live up to the Desiderata, no need to say  more. So, to have found a book that depicts every line of the Desiderata with a cute kitten portrait is like finding a treasure. A treasure I want to share with my little boy. For those who had never read the Desiderata by Max Ehrmann, click here. I promise you’ll love every.single. line. And if you’re wondering…yes! there is a Desiderata for Dog Lovers!
    Before I Go to Sleep

Before I Go To Sleep: it has a lovely vintage look, it’s light and thin. The pictures are amazingly beautiful. When you turn the pages it’s almost like if you were touching a beautiful painting. It depicts a little boy ready to go to bed. He says night-night to mommy, daddy, teddy bear, the moon and the stars while sailing away on a red boat flying over town visiting grandma’s and grandpa’s house. Very cute!

Baby Prayers

Baby Prayers: This is the prayer you’ll read right before the Contents page: “Thank you God, for all your precious little ones. Thank you for wide eyes, eager smiles and trusting faces. Thank you for the miracle gift they are to us. Help us to teach them more about You and your love for them. Amen. ”  After reading these lines it’s hard not to buy the book.  And this is  another prayer for Mommy’s Busy Days: ” Dear God,
Help me to enjoy taking care of this little child today.
Please give me all the energy and patience I need.
Amen. “
365 Stories and Rhymes for Boys: A Story a Day
365 Stories and Rhymes for Boys: A story a Day: it is lovely! In this book you’ll find all those nursery rhymes you thought you knew…and then some. ‘Humpty, Dumpty’, ‘Pop Goes the Weasel’, ‘Row, Row, Row your Boat’, ‘It’s raining, it’s pouring’… Each and every page is illustrated and it comes in a beautiful soft padded cover. Also available: 365 Stories and Rhymes for Girls: A story a Day.

And there’s more. I’ll promise I’ll share them with you next week. For now, take a peek a these books for your little one, I’m sure all the family will enjoy them. What’s your kid’s favorite read? I would love to hear from you.
Thanks! Have a wonderful day!
